Our Programs...
Racial Justice
The YWCA integrates anti-racism and pro-diversity principles into everything we do.
YWCA Diversity Leadership Directory is a compilation of names of minority men and women in our community who may wish to be involved in the community by serving on boards, councils, and committees. The goal of this program is to build leadership that reflects the true diversity of our community.
Empowerment
YWCA YW-Teens is a service and leadership training organization. They exist to enhance the quality of life in central Louisiana by supporting the local mission of the YWCA and by donating hundreds of hours of community service. Many girls gain work experience (volunteering) for future jobs.
Panhellenic Program provides information on individual girls planning to attend a college or university with national sororities. Area high school seniors submit an information sheet to be kept on file at the YWCA. Representatives use this file during “Rush” to identify girls interested in joining their sorority.
Working Women’s Wardrobe provides free appropriate work clothing to women in need. This program is for women seeking employment or starting new jobs.
Youth
YWCA Buddies Mentoring Program matches children with positive role models. The majority of the children are from single-parent homes. The children are between ages five and twelve. Our goal is to reinforce positive attributes, including a strengthened sense of self-worth at home, in school, and in the community. All matches are based on either site or school during the school months.
After School Program provides structured childcare for working mothers and fathers. We provide scholarships each year to single working parents. We help those who help themselves.
Summer Day Camp is designed especially for children ages 5 - 13. Children in this program can expect to have a summer filled with fun. Arts and crafts, indoor and outdoor games, movies and swimming are all part of the summers activities. Children are divided into age groups with each group going on one field trip a week. Friday finales ake place each Friday with different activities. Scholarships are provided (but limited) for working single parents.
Swim lessons and recreational swim are also offered. We are included on Atrans bus route, making our facility very accessible.
